Challenge
Our client, Kolektor Sisteh, required the installation of a DN350 pipeline for transporting drinking water from a water treatment plant to a reservoir. The pipeline needed to handle a working flow of 110 l/s while ensuring efficient and secure water transport over a 45-meter elevation difference.
The project required a hybrid material approach: the pipeline starts inside the plant in an inox (stainless steel) execution, then transitions to PE (polyethylene) material once it exits the facility. The external section of the PE pipeline runs both underground and above ground, with the above-ground portion requiring insulation, protected by an additional plastic casing. A particularly demanding section of the pipeline was installed along a slope with an incline exceeding 35°, requiring the use of a cableway system to transport and position the pipeline. Additionally, the system required a flow meter, a non-return valve, and a surge protection valve to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
About Kolektor Sisteh
Kolektor Sinabit and Kolektor Synatec merged to strengthen their position as the leading Slovene provid- er of solutions, services and equipment for automation and information flow in industry and economy.
Kolektor Sisteh’s vision is to develop technologically advanced and innovative solutions for a wider interna-tional market, including technological engineering for various branches of industry, energy, buildings and municipal infrastructure. Their sales program further includes electronic and electrical engineering equipment of companies thay represent in Slovenia and abroad, and proper devices and systems for automation and information flow of processes, machines and devices.
Process
Our role in the project was exclusively focused on the installation of the pipeline. The installation process was executed in several steps. The stainless-steel section inside the facility was assembled first, ensuring proper connection with the pumping station. Once this section was completed, the polyethylene pipeline was installed, transitioning to an underground section and then continuing above ground in certain areas.
For the exposed sections, insulation and protective casing were applied to prevent heat loss and mechanical damage. The installation of the PE section along the steep slope required a cableway system to transport and precisely position the pipeline. The integration of critical control components, including a flow meter, non-return valve, and surge protection valve, was carried out meticulously to regulate pressure and ensure operational stability. The final phase consisted of comprehensive testing and commissioning, confirming that the pipeline was fully functional and met all performance requirements.
Result
The completed DN350 drinking water pipeline provided Kolektor Sisteh with a robust, efficient, and secure solution for transporting water between facilities. The pipeline was designed to withstand significant elevation changes and various environmental conditions, ensuring long-term operational reliability. The use of high-quality materials and precise installation techniques contributed to a system that not only met but also optimized flow efficiency. Additionally, the project was completed within the agreed timeline, minimizing any disruptions to the client’s operations. The multi-material approach ensured durability, efficiency, and compliance with safety regulations. The seamless installation process minimized downtime and ensured that the system was operational without any disruptions.
